Scobee Dooby Doo Does It For Jaguars
Jacksonville Jaguars placekicker Josh Scobee had a hall-of-fame type game in Monday night NFL action against the Baltimore Ravens. Scobee was responsible for all of the Jags points, kicking a field goal in every quarter (3 over 50 yards), in a 12-7 win.
The Jaguars (2-5) waited for this national spotlight to play one of their greatest defensive games in over a decade. Jacksonville didn’t allow a first down until a little more than 5 minutes remaining in the second quarter and limited the Ravens to just 16 yards in the first half. They allowed Baltimore (4-2) only 146 total yards, 34 rushing and 112 passing.
Here are some other stats from a game dominated by defense: 16 penalties (Ravens 10, Jags 6), 6 fumbles (Ravens 2, Jags 4), 16 punts (Ravens 9, Jags 7), 1 TD (Ravens), 4 FGs (Jaguars).
But the story of the night was Josh Scobee. He kicked a field goal in every quarter, a 54 yarder with 1:47 left in the 1st quarter, a 54 yarder with 6:03 left in second quarter, a 22 yarder with 6:33 in 3rd quarter and a 51 yarder with 1:48 left in the fourth quarter.
That last FG proved to be the deciding factor as QB Joe Flacco lead the Ravens to a TD with 2:06 left in the fourth quarter, cutting the lead to 9-7. But after a failed Ravens onside kick, the cool, calm, and collective Scobee kicked his 14th FG in 14 attempts in 2011.
So far in 2011, there is no better place kicker in AFC. If he keeps it up, Josh Scobee will be heading to Hawaii in February, representing the AFC in the Pro Bowl.
